Professional certification is not necessary to work at my company but we are seeking certification as additional proof that one is knowledgeable and experienced in their discipline, and provide additional measurements for advancement. We also find that the most successful electrical design drafter is rooted in technical experience either as an installer, troubleshooter or designer. There are courses that you can take for these topics but it is not a test you take unless you are going for your electrical journeyman's license. In our industry the NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 are relevant to what we do. So far I haven't found anything concerning drafting as it relates to electrical. It is a test that you have to pass and also have sponsors sign off on the number of years of experience.
I'm talking about a professional organization such as ADDA which offers certification in Civil, Mechanical or Architectural. to be able to use AutoCAD Electrical software from scratch to use it in a practical and professional way.
